MARTI MARINA, ORHANYIE, TURKEY
1. Marmaris - Gerbekse. 19nm
we had intended to go straight to Rhodes, but it looked like a hot day and i fancied a swim in a quiet anchorage, so we headed for Gerbekse, just a few miles west of the entrance to Marmaris Bay. We managed to sail most of it, making big tacks out to sea and back again, turning as the wind died nearer the coast. Eventually we gave up and motored the last couple of miles, only to find katabatic wind screaming down the hillsides at 30+ knots!
The wind eventually died away after a few hours and i did manage a quick dip to check the anchor.
2. Gerbekse - Rhodes. 16.5nm
Up early to get into Rhodes harbour we motored all the way. On arrival we found that the old 'free pontoon' had been removed, but we moored stern to between some other yachts on the same side, only for one night as this spot belonged to a dive boat that would be returning the next day. Terry ate Gyros at Steki's and we did our trip up to Lidl. Most provisions seem to have got more expensive recently; this is partly die to the exchange rate decrease (we were getting 1.50€ to 1£ 2 years ago, it has been down to 1€=1£ this year) and also due to local price rises. Maybe we won't be so ready to come back to re-stock in the future.
3. Rhodes - Orhaniye. 34nm
After yet another gyros for Terry, we set off back to Turkey for our haul out at Marti Marina. We have chosen Marti as it is half the price of a lift out at Yat Marina!
