After a quick trip back to the UK to see friends and family before the big trip we came back to bright sunny Egypt just before the snow set in England. Had we got the next Easyjet flight from Gatwick, we'd have been disappointed as it was cancelled in all the bad weather.
Back in Egypt we set about doing all the job before setting off - changing the oil, engine checks, electric checks, re-wiring the solar panel, washing the rigging and ropes and also fitting the new wind instrument - a Nexus wireless one, unfortunately the TackTick one was just not reliable enough. It kept losing signal from the mast top transducer. TackTick tried to help us troubleshoot the problem but eventually agreed it wasn't the piece of equipment for us and refunded our money. So lets see how the Swedish made Nexus is...
We
also had Christmas to prepare for....Lo organised a Christmas Eve dinner in
one of the marina restaurants. they also said we could borrow tables and
chairs for our pontoon lunch the next day, but then changed their minds and
only let us have 3 tables - to seat 40 people!. But thanks to the Marina
Sphinx Bar who stepped into the breach and lent us a good number of tables
and chairs for our dinner. Everyone brought a contribution to the meal, so
we had good helpings of roast turkey, stuffing, potatoes and vegetables
followed by trifle and cake.
